Another Importing Question

Hey, I'm Rob but you can call me cub if you want because I'm probably going to be the youngest in TAG. It is going to be around 10 months before I can actually get a rifle so this question is not very relevant right now but I wanted it clarified anyway.

I will be getting a noverisch ssg96. Because it is a bolt action rifle, it technically isn't a restricted firearm because it does not look like a semi-automatic rifle or an illegal firearm.

For the purposes of the definition of restricted airgun in subsection (1), an airgun can have the appearance of a pistol, restricted weapon, prohibited firearm, or firearm capable of fully automatic fire without having the appearance of any particular model of pistol, restricted weapon, prohibited firearm, or firearm capable of full-automatic fire.

Will this mean that I wouldn't need to get a permit in order to get it into New Zealand? Because I'm not really looking forward to paying for a permit on top of my firearms licence.

Additional question, can I get my firearms licence without needing gun storage because airsoft rifles don't require it?

Thanks in advance.

Re: Another Importing Question

Hi Cub, welcome.

The Novritsch SSG96 does not require a permit. A permit to import to does not cost in any case. Personally, I would still apply for a permit to ensure a smooth import once it reaches customs.

I don't think a safe is required in order to get your firearms license, however I would suggest enquiring at the local arms office to be sure. Airsoft guns do not require a gun storage safe, however due to their appearance they should be treated with similar levels of respect. Always store them in a secure place. Never leave them unattended or in a unlocked vehicle.

Re: Another Importing Question

Ok, I was under the impression that it would cost a lot. However, the noverich is a big expensive gun so will I get ripped to shreds from the GST?

Additionally, are the games that tag engages in very good for snipers?

Re: Another Importing Question

In my experience it's a roll of the dice whether or not you get stung with GST. Even if you get hit with GST and custom's duty fees you still save money by importing your own airsoft gun.

Our games cater to all play styles :)

Have you considered what sidearm you are going to get? If you're running a bolt action rifle with a muzzle velocity over 1.13joules (350fps on .2g bbs) we have minimum safe engagement distances (MED). You swap to your sidearm to engage targets within your MED.

Re: Another Importing Question

I have thought about sidearms but I couldn't find any sellers and even though the noverisch sidearms look cool and are good value, they don't ship to nz. So unless the armoured is able to get some in then I don't really know.

Local:
Unlimited Airsoft, The Arena - both in Christchurch. ASGC (Auckland).

Overseas:
Impulse101 (Japan), Redwolf Airsoft (Hong Kong), WGC (Hong Kong).

Tokyo Marui Hicapas and the new series of Glocks are excellent pistols. Just my opinions ofcourse :D

That one looks pretty good. If I want to buy it, do I get an armourer to make the order?

If I were in your position I would wait till you're able to come out to a game and check out what gear we have before purchasing anything.

See you then.

Always a gas pistol, but these are sidearms and won't have the range or accuracy of the weapons you'll be coming up against. It's not impossible, and will depend on your play style. We had a member that only used a pistol and was like a ninja, you never saw him till it was too late! However, I would recommend a good quality AEG as your first weapon.

In regards to another post you have made, I assume you are under 16. If so, please bear in mind it is an offence to own an airsoft weapon if under 16, and if you are 16 or 17 you require a firearms license.

Re: Another Importing Question

Hey bud,

Just an advice for a beginner in airsoft, sniping takes time and patience.
You will be outgunned by AEGs if you're not used to the play style which might put you off.
I have been sniping for a long time and it took me a while to get used to the range and MEDs.
What I can recommend is come out and play on the field and I will personally lend you a spare sniper that I have and let you test it out before you spend big bucks on a novritsch rifle and to see if you like the play style.

Cheers.

Re: Another Importing Question

Hey, saint nick.
Merlin did bring up the fact that getting an AEG would be best in order to start out so I will probably get that. The noverich guns are rather expensive as you say so I am probably going to get a simple L96 from evike to start out sniping. But when I am able to play and get guns, I will definitely take up your offer to give it a test run. I do kinda understand the concept of a sniper and even though people do say that sniping isn't that good for a beginner, I really like the concept of just chillin in a gorse bush for 15 minutes to maybe get 1 or 2 kills and sneaking in for recognisance and that sort of thing.

I'm probably gonna get this once I am able to. I'm not sure why but I have always liked AUGs
In terms of starter sniper rifles, I will probably get this as it seems good value.

Just checking, is this the same as this?
