Day One - Comp DayThe day was split up into
16 rounds with two byes. The three main events were 6v6 rush, deathmatch and territory. Seconarily there was the two-gun shooting and the optional sniper contest.
- Rush had a team of defenders with only one life each against a team of infinitely re spawning enemies for three minutes. Attacking teams could tag out to subs when they respawned. The idea was to attack fast and then defend for a long time.
- Deathmatch was a straight up team deathmatch with no respawns. You would get bonus points for wiping the enemy or bonus points for surviving the whole time.
- Territory was on a larger field (maybe about eight times the area). The goal was to capture as many of the thirteen hidden capture points as you could. Whoever had the most left at the end won.
It was an very hot day so we were fortunate to get good placements for our two byes and marksmanship rounds so we could get some good rests in throughout the day. One the whole we did pretty well at all the rush games; scoring large wins on all of them but the last one where we were locked out by one of CSGs teams. Territory games always felt like we either lost or drew; because we never knew how many capture points we actually had at the end of the game. We never lost a deathmatch but came very close against Rub, losing the first round 4-3 and winning the second round 6-3.
Personally my highlights were:
- Watching Eda kill the last three guys on a team in one run up the side of the field, getting the last guy whilst mid-kneeslide with his pistol. (He won a prize for that)
- Taking out a team in rush in one minute and then lasting until three minutes on defence (twice).
- Cowering in fear from RUB-1 for 4:30 of a 5:00 minute deathmatch game only to take out three of them in the last 30 seconds.
- Ghosthunter secretly revealing he caputred four capture points by himself in territory when we thought he had hardly got any.
- Sasquatch saving me from certain doom at least one every territory round.
- Ghosthunter mistakenly calling the game early, causing Rafen to dive into cover and bust his arm when the came was suddenly called back on.
- Mysterious forces haunting Rafen.
- Having my AEG run out of battery and then my pistol break in one shot as the last defender in Rush.
We later found out at the prizegiving that we had won the DMR challenge; taking out 1st, 2nd and 3rd (Myself, Rafen and Eda respectively). We had also won at the Rush, Territory and Deathmatch games thus taking out the championship in a grand slam. It came as a huge surprise to us as we thought we had done pretty poorly at all of our territory games. I guess the other teams had trouble finding the capture points too.
All in all I think we took in close to $700 dollars worth of vouchers for various NZ airsoft shops, 20kgs of non-bio 0.25g bbs, and about 20,000 0.2g bios.
I'll get to day two tomorrow. I hope this is the kind of write up Reaper wanted
