Night vision

The night game coming up has got me interested in buying some NVGs of my own, I am aware how expensive they can be but am willing to take the leap. Been looking at some pvs-7s overseas but I am curious if it is better to get them in NZ or if its easier to buy overseas. Cheers and thanks for the help -g

Re: Night vision

Hey mate.

It's a complex topic and I don't think there is anyone here with much experience on the subject. In all my years of playing I've seen exactly 2 NVGs that were worth while but cost multiple thousands of dollars.

Most of the night vision you'll see at airsoft games in New Zealand is considered "digital" night vision. Which is a unit with a built in infra red spot light and low resolution CMOS screen. These types of units range from the "modern warfare" promotional goggles to rifle mounted hunting scopes. There isn't much of a market in New Zealand for head mounted "true" NVGs with light intensification tubes. These are the ones we all want but don't want to spend upwards of $7000 dollars for.

I'm excited by the future of thermal imaging technologies, this will be more than adequate for our purposes and is dropping in price dramatically.

I used to think that night vision was the ultimate must have but now I think communication, movement and stealth can make you just as effective in the dark.

Re: Night vision

Yeah the new tech coming out looks pretty awesome. Digital stuff seems to be becoming the way of the future. I am slowly starting to see more units cropping up and becoming cheaper and cheaper so I imagine it wont be long until night vision units will go down in price. It is a shame about the general cost of it currently though.
