I should be able to fix it pretty quickly. If you have a way of getting it to me I can crack it open and show you how it works

yup it sounds like the spring that pulls the electrical contact back has broken. Should just be a stretch and fix job provided it hasn't broken in the middle. On a rarer occasion, the plastic tab on the top may have broken instead. This is not (easily) fixable and requires a replacement part.
