M9A1 GBB Pistol Misfeeding

Hi All,

I'm a newbie to airsoft guns and to this forum as well, so I hope you'll all bear with me. ^_^

I've recently purchased a KJW M9A1 GBB Pistol and it occasionally seems to misfeed when I first insert a mag and click the slide release. The BB will fall out the barrel and the shot will be a blank, followed usually by the correct operation of the gun.
I live in CHCH and obviously it is cold this time of year, I want to know whether this behaviour can be attributed to a cold environment (I'm shooting indoors but in an unheated room), whether I've bought a lemon, or if this type of thing is fairly normal behaviour for a GBB pistol.

Depending on the answer I would be interested to know the likely suspects (faulty Mag? Overadjusted Hop-Up?) and whether its fixable or if I have to return the gun for a new one.

Thanks very much.

Welcome Vlahn,

I don't have any experience with KJW pistols, But I can tell you that its not weather effected as its a feeding issue.
The weather only effects the gas - Hot weather makes the gas expand and increases the pressure, very cold weather makes the gas pressure less powerful.

Maybe your mag is not feeding correctly due to the spring sticking in the mag - dirt in the channel where the BB and spring slide's up.

What type of BB's are you using ?
Depending on the make of your BB's they could be out of shape due to small flaws in the mould.

ObsoleteAcey or the other members might be able to give you better advise on the subject.

Thanks ZeroAlpha.

I'm using .2 BB's, I bought them from Gun City (their own brand). I'll have a look at the mag's loading spring and see if their is any obvious dirt etc, but I didn't see any on a casual look last night. (Can I unscrew the plastic part that allows me to remove the spring without damaging the mag?)

Okay.

Done some further testing.

Basically, if I hold the pistol level and shoot it with clean fast shots, it functions fine. However if I lower the gun between shots, then six times out of ten the BB will roll right out the barrel. Occasionally it seems fine, but a little shake of the gun will have it tumbling out.

Is this normal (ie. You can't run around with a loaded BB pistol or the pellet will fall out?) or is this gun going back to the shop?

So you mean altering the hopup so it sits deeper into the barrel? (puts more spin on the BB?)

Is it the HopUp that is meant to 'hold' the BB in place then?

Re: M9A1 GBB Pistol Misfeeding

The hop up puts a back spin on the bb to give it more range and as the gun wears in you adjust it to suit. It might not be the problem tho . Ill take a look at it for you if you like . Send me a PM and ill flick you my address .

Re: M9A1 GBB Pistol Misfeeding

I'd like to thank Spawn for helping out this newbie. Problem was indeed the Hop-Up, quickly fixed by Spawn and now working as intended. ^_^

I've now been instructed in the ways of Airsoft, fired a couple of guns and even been shot at ^_~ I'll be looking forward to coming along as a guest to some upcoming TAG games.

Thanks again everyone who commented and helped out on this forum.
