Heres my experience for what its worth.
I tried a 2x but found that because you cant 'open' both eyes to look at your target (you get a weird focus thing going on like your drunk) it takes an extra bit of time to focus down the sight and by then its too late.
3-4x magnification is about as far as you want to go, if your intending to snipe.
Holo, iron or 1x magnification if you want to be assaulty as you can aim much quicker in the heat of the moment.

also remember to bring all your stuff into the briefing area, we can't keep spreading out into the cars for lunch etc. it makes it very hard to keep track of everyone and get the games running on time.
