Hi from Serbia

Nice site, looking forward to see Kiwi's in action.
Right now I'm in Serbia, but I will be in NZ NLT January 2009 (with my family).
I often used "Mile Dragic Production" equipment during my military career, and still use it during paintball.
Here, we haven't any airsoft club, but paintball is very popular.

Because we "locked" Christchurch as our destination, you will get one new member in the team, and I am ready to donate my knowledge and experience.

So, I would be training equipment :D

NZ is very remote place to spend a holiday, so we started process with NZ immigration services for moving.
As ex-military, I will work in security branch, or something similar.
Everything is going smoothly for now (with few exceptions, of course).

See you over the sight, mate

Hi Opfor.
What sort of weapon besides the pistol in your picture do you yourself primarily use?
A AK-47 or something entirely different? It was interesting to see there were many different looks/variations of the AK47 within the photos on militaryphotos.net, some with wood/solid stocks and others with retractible, some with wood handguards and others with what would assumedly be metal? Some interesting looking suppressors on some of them aswell.

Is the Heckler & Koch MP5's and IMI Uzi's primarily used by Special Operation units within the Serbian military, or is it possible to see regular infantry with these weapons?

Sorry for hyjacking the thread with these questions.

Major weapon manufacturer in Serbia is "Zastava Arms" http://www.zastava-arms.co.yu

Top products are AK-47 variants, none as M-70 in 7.62mm. There are a lot of models, basically with retractable or fixed stock.
Also, there is family of 5.56mm weapons (with SS109 bullet), similar to Russian AKS.
All models are high quality - not as Chinese or Romanian mass production rifles.

SAF new assault rifle is M-21, cal.5.56 in basic 3 variants: regular, shorten and compact (or carabine). Other accessories is optional, by so-called "blocks" (similar to SOPMOD), because this new rifle is projected as modular platform. personally, I don't like it - heavy, ugly plastic and powder particles are going backward, to face. Lousy project. But the barrel is polygonal, as at the PSG-1 or Jericho 941 pistol (Israeli made).

We had used Bulgarian AKS-101 (our markings) - totally black, quality plastic and very light (w/o GP-25 launcher).

In SAF SF, as CQB weapons, H&K family of MP-5's is widely used (from MP-5k to SD) as well as Israeli Uzi's or in some cases Croatian made ERO's (copy of the Uzi). Other "regular" units use limited number of H&K as personal weapons but official weapons for that purpose is automatic pistol Scorpion 7.65mm M-84 (Serbian variant of Vz61). But, weak bullet is death sentence for the future of Scorpion.

As side weapons we used Serbian made CZ-99 cal. 9mm (similar to SIG P226), and in SF Israeli made Jericho 941F. On picture that I posted you can see my custom CZ-99, but in 40S&W caliber.

Thanks for that OpFor, always interesting to learn about the weapons that are used by a particular countries military.

So from what you said the M70 is being phased out of service I take it?
After looking into the M21 I've read that it comes with a "Picatinny" style rail for attaching standard NATO aiming devices.
Is it common for soldiers to use such aiming devices or is it more common for soldiers to rely solely on iron sights?

M-70 will probably stay few more years, but M21 is our new basic assault rifle.

Apart M21's iron sights, Picatinny rail is essence of modular principle and it define this rifle as multipurpose. With Picatinny it is very easy to use either reflex or optical sight, as well as night vision, or attach fore grip, tactical light or laser.
Also, we already use micro cams aside of barrel for target identification and mission recording during hostage rescue scenario - very useful item.
