Spawn post projects

I have had this idea for some time and thought I might share it will you.
For sometime I have had the belief that some of of our games have been restricted of are difficult for new players to understand or carry out due to the understanding of spawn points or team flags and more importantly the capturing of these points.

So what if we have clear signal posts that from a good distance are easy to find, clearly show their present condition (live or not) and can be left out in position as long as we like.

1.The post themselves could be made of wood
2. The cover shroud also made of wood
3. Easily painted (i'm happy to do this)
4. when the shroud is fitted over the post it can be held in the GREEN position/live position by a pin which could hang on a chain.
5 When a team takes control or captures the spawn post a player simply removes the pin and the cover will full down and expose the red-dead spawn position. (a small block at the bottom stops it falling all the way down)

The big question i have is could we make 6 of these and have them for anzac weekend

The only problem I see is materials? hopefully someone might have access to some posts or wood?

I have some white paint and will get some green and red.

Should anyone want to take on this project I would be more than greatfull to them as I'm fairly committed to other areas of the game weekend.

Good idea,

Just as an aside... ASA have an electronic version of something like this that they use for their capture the flag games, it has a timmer & requires it to be held for a set time to change colour. ie. say the green team had captured it would take 30 secs to get it off green, then 30 sec's to get it to your colour. Button must be held down for this entire time period.

It has 3 colours. Plus communicates with the other flags, they have 5 or 6. Send the information to a central box, via relay, so the score of the tema that has held the most flags for the longest etc wins.

Point values & change times can be varied.

I helped Kman assemble part of these, & the cost didnt look prohibitive. We could ask for a price if interested. It would give us more scope for even more games.

Adler caps the thing... again! & yes, that is how open some of the Auckland fields are.
Anyway, you can see here the lights, (blue) the box with 3 buttons, you hold down your colour. The aerial of the unit that relays the timings of the colour is on top. The lights where bright enough on the exposed field, they face 3 directions & could be seen from almost anywhere. (some where in denser bush & where still quite visible.

the electronic stuff is a great idea in theory, but practicality wise we may run in to troubles. First up is powering the devices, obviously by battery or more expensively by solar (which requires a battery to be in the device at all times). Secondly, because out forsted area is somewhat denser than up north, we'd need to use stronger transmitters.

ALthough i much prefer the electronic ones for serveral reasons, it would depend on their programability in the field (adjusting timer for button press, introducing a 3rd colour, varying the way you can activate them for example they have to be activated in a line one after the other or can be activated in any order).

The wooden posts are a little more flexible in this respect (adding another colour is as simple as painting another stripe) although in my experiance people's honesty with how they "activate" them is questionable. The electronic ones are far more resilient to cheating

That k-man sure is a clever chap.

And I do like the post dea too. Infact any idea that makes better games is good.

Mind you, what stops us using actual flags in "capture the flag" games :D
Slayer had his wind up flag pole (tho haven't seen it used).

The spawn point could be a hi-vis flag (or hi vis sprayed around tree) - even cheaper.
