Christchurch man shot in face
A Christchurch man will need surgery to his eye and face after being shot at point-blank range in what seems to be an unprovoked attack.
Police are asking for help to identify the offender who shot the 29-year-old man with a BB air-pistol on Hereford Street at around 1.30am on Sunday August 29.
"One pellet has hit his forehead, with the other pellet penetrating his right eye, causing severe damage to that eye," Detective Sergeant Mark Reid said.
Surgery was needed to remove the pellet from his eye and the man would need further surgery, Detective Constable Hamish Beer told NZPA.
"He is doing okay, I believe this is an isolated incident and it doesn't look as though the victim and offender knew each other."
Closed circuit television footage shows a blond man in a white T-shirt and jeans walking with a woman with long blonde hair in a black and grey hoodie and shorts. The victim came up to walk alongside the pair just before the offender pulled a black pistol from his jeans and fired twice.
The woman then grabbed the man's arm and the pair casually walked away.
