Good afternoon from a noob

Hey, My name is Oliver and I played my first airsoft game today in Timaru using club guns.

First a bit about me. I am 18 years old, and I work 27 hours a week at a local Highschool where I teacher aide. Some of my intrests include music, online gaming (not an RPG fan :D ) the Air Training Core where I am a Warrent Officer, as well as minatures wargaming which i play at Timaru armchair generals, or TAG for short. I have applied to join the airforce as an air security specialist, and have testing for this coming up this month.

Anyways, back to airsoft. I am very keen to get into this hobby, and would really like so reccomendations on which type of weapons to go for. from what I learnt playing today I would like a rifle with long range, and accuracy which could be easily modded with a scope/ laser sight. I don't have a crazy ammount of money to throw at airsoft, but I don't mind saving for a bit. Rate of fire really dosn't worry me, I would rather put in one accurate stealth shot than spray and walk away. 8O

I have noticed the Draginov on the ASGC site, and it seems like a good buy, but from the sounds of it I would need a pistol as well.

Anyways, thanks and any help would be appreciated.

Hi Oliver

Firstly, welcome to Airsoft! Secondly, it is never recommended to anyone to start with a long arm, you're better off to get the pistol, and learn the ways of the sneaky...and with your field, I would recommend a shorter rifle (such as a G36C, AKS74U or maybe M4) to navigate the tighter areas...because close engagements are going to happen often...long range rifles are fun, but generally what happens is you buy something, and out of the box it doesnt reach out and destroy your enemy from the 100M mark, so you lose interest...thus wasting your dollars...

Personally, I'd be starting with a pistol, and/or G36C for example, and learning the basics of Airsoft tactics...then later on bust out the rifle!

Hy Oliver yes I totally agree with my steamed college the Squirrel . My first weapon was a springer Shot gun pump action single shot with a red dot scope firing around 330fps man the fun I had with that it was short and I could sneek around and snipe. People would say not that thing. So anyway you dont need a long sniper rifle to do the sniper thing. And on the other hand you carnt go to far wrong with a G36, M4, Which can get just as good as a sniper rifle with range. :D :D

Hope this helps. :D :D

Re: Good afternoon from a noob

cheers guys, also are there any brands that stand out as being much better/ worse in quality? I have noticed that Jing Gong make cheaper end airsoft guns, but this is making me think they will be lesser quality.

Also would a bb gun like this be good as a starting point? http://www.asgc.co.nz/product_info.php?products_id=288 it looks nice and compact, as well as having a high power.
