the jamming p90 and the laughable "fix"

I bought a real army p90 from a company who i'm not going to name just yet.

from day 1 it was unreliable getting a few shots off and then jamming. Sometimes it would unjam after that, and sometimes not until the battery was recharged.

after taking it back for repair i got it back today and the fix is as follows...

wire attached at one end to the trigger terminal, the other end left dangling in the battery compartment, this is being labelled "the unjammer".
instructions to use said unjammer are to wedge the loose end into the red-terminal of the battery connector (that its, after having taken the stock end off and hauling the guts out).

not only was i told these instructions with a straight face, I was also told that "no airsoft guns sold in NZ are designed to work on semi auto without jamming" and that "this is the standard solution for all guns they sell"

and everyone ready..........laugh

now, what I really want to know is what is causing the jam? I think the battery is too weak to drive the motor once it is engaged to the piston, but shouldn't there be some mechanisim built into the gearbox to make it stop when the piston isn't engaged?

Acey is probably the best person to answer the techy details on this, but it is most likely your battery which is causing the issues. What sort of battery are you using?

Sounds a bit like Gun City to me ?

Most Airsoft Weapons do have a problem with Semi, as sometimes the motor will not do a full cycle thus causing a jam.

It can also be caused due to low battery power as the other guys have said.

It s not uncommon to have so called unjammers fitted to some weapons to help fix / solve the problem.

Its good to see you asking for advice and that your not gullible either.

Good luck Section8

yes but shorting out the battery does NOTHING in terms of unjamming the mechanisim.

you'd need a circuit that monitors the motor current and cuts it off at the correct point. I have queries outstanding elsewhere about such a circuit.
at this point, its a question of whether i return everythng for a refund or just the batteries and charger.

Right, so can anyone tell me if there is anything about the gear train that should make it stop at the right places?

Re: the jamming p90 and the laughable "fix"

Here is a video of how the gears in an SEG work http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svnoU1Fr9-8.

Even on semi, a gun with an appropriately powered spring and a good battery, should not jam often. If the battery came with the gun, if it has been fully charged and if the gun jams as often as you say then I would advise taking it back and asking for a refund or a better battery.

To give an unjamming solution as a fix is an entirely inappropriate fix for this issue if it is happening so regularly.

Re: the jamming p90 and the laughable "fix"

There is a mechanisism(sp) inside the gearbox that stops the gears from moving hence making the piston work further once its completed its cycle. Its an anti reversal latch. Maybe the springs stuffed on that?

But then again... I dont really know...most of my guns are stuffed anyways... lol

Talk to Rogue or Nematode - TAG Armourers, they might be able to help you.

What type of Airsoft Weapon are you after ?
Whats your budget ?

Maybe this ?
