Trademe Gun Advice

I have recently discovered that many packages that include batteries and chargers are actually no good for what you need it for. The charger will destroy the battery, I had to invest $110 on a good charger to avoid damaging my battery even more, Im running LiPo now though and that was the best step I could've taken
Re: Trademe Gun Advice
OK to start with, I can't see where anyone mentioned the fact this is an actual trader in Auckland, called Air Soft Gun Centre (www.asgc.co.nz) and personally, I have seen 3 "refurbished" guns from them that I don't think were even worthy of spitting on. DO NOT buy these guns.
My personal dealings with ASGC have all been bad, they screwed me around when I ordered some guns that they had in stock, plus magazines, batteries and a charger...basically well over a thousand dollars moved hands there, and they shafted me. This aside, they might sell wonderfully cheap guns, but the ones I have seen that their armourer has worked on are just all kinds of wrong. I have an M4 sitting in my garage that I just can't put back together due to the worst kind of workmanship to bodge together, missing some seriously vital components in it...I can only speculate how the hell they managed to test fire this gun and then without a guilty look on their faces, hand this across to the owner who paid nearly a thousand dollars for it...I bought a metal G&G M4 variant, and after 2 years of thrashing it, dropping it, killing and maiming my enemies, I pulled it apart to see all it needs is a new motor pinion...fantastic quality and I paid about $500 for it, which is where it pretty much is now.
If you want to buy from a shop, I can recommend www.battlesoft.co.nz (currently down while they get Police approval of their new site), or www.thearmory.co.nz (excuse the American spelling) who sell G&G and Real Sword (hardcore stuff)...both places will sell you guns that you will never need to repair, replace, or upgrade as long as you leave them stock
Anyway, enough ranting...if you need brand advice, mate, you're in the right place!

Hrm
I see you found the Armory, Anton has some very good deals going there
http://www.armory.co.nz/cat_36/tov_40.html <-- full stock version of my gun, I assume that seeing as they have kept all the G&G names, this is a full metal, full stock M4 (basically the SR16 gun that some other companies call it) for under $400. Anyone want to buy an SR25?

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
Cheers Slayer, some good advice there, I'll avoid ASGC. Do Battlesoft or MAG stock any G36Ks with the built-in scope? One of those would probably be my first choice, although that all-metal M4/SR16/GR16 you posted looks pretty slick too.
As for the SR25 - are you seriously looking at selling it? If so, tell me more

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
HAHA Stringman, I haven't even picked it up yet...but when I saw the price for that SR16/M4 thing...almost half the price I paid for my one (with sliding stock) and it is already in New Zealand
I cannot stress enough how cheap that is for the best gun I have ever owned.

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
haha ok you've pretty much sold me (well, that and trying Spawn's M4 this morning, it was freakin' sweet). That Armory M4 you posted looks like just my cup of tea. I like the full barrel (as opposed to the CQB M4's short barrel), the foregrip and the sweet full rail setup. I take it from your post that it is largely metal, as opposed to the cheaper one which looks mostly plastic? The only thing I don't like about it is the full stock. I reckon I'll send them an email asking if it's possible to get one with a sliding stock, and if they could possibly make me up a combo package including battery + charger, swap the high-cap mag for a couple of low-cap mags, and possibly a pair of kneepads as well. (Wonder whether it's too much to ask whether they do a club discount?
)
EDIT: Discovered one that looks exactly like what I'm looking for on the G&G website: The GR16 R4 Carbine - http://www.guay2.com/web/our_product/gr16_r4c.php?lang=en

Just drop the spring in it ya lazy bugger... thats what I did
Re: Trademe Gun Advice
Ok, I've pretty much immersed myself in gun research over the last few days, trying to learn as much as I can before I buy. I emailled Battlesoft, MAG and the Armory last night. Battlesoft have a sweet Marui M4A1 that would be just the ticket, but unfortunately it's a bit out of my budget at $1K. Nice looking piece though: http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/tokyo-marui-sopmod-m4-airsoft-blow-back-aeg.html
I haven't heard from MAG yet. The Armory can order me the one I was asking about, but it would be $669. I realised after I emailled them that it has a mandatory second mag clip used to store the battery, which is a bit lame so on second thoughts I'd rather avoid it. G&G make a GR16 R4 called the 'Commando' which stores the batteries in an extendible stock, but it is doubtlessly way out of my price range.
So, looks like my best three options are the following (ordered by price):
1) G&G GR16 Carbine Light Combo, $335 - http://www.armory.co.nz/cat_36/tov_42.html
Pros: Very cheap; adjustable stock; combo pack with battery/charger.
Cons: Short barrel (less accurate/looks a bit lame); no foregrip; no rail system (I prefer the look of the full picatinny rails on the other two); standard handle sight; possibly more plasticky?
2) G&G GR16 R4, $389 - http://www.armory.co.nz/cat_36/tov_40.html
Pros: Nice barrel length; nice rail system; foregrip; reasonable-looking iron sight; good reviews from Squirrel and elsewhere; possibly more metallic construction? (This is my favourite in terms of how it looks - only complaint is the stock)
Cons: Full fixed stock; doesn't come with battery/charger; a little more expensive.
3) G&G GR15 Raider-XL DST, $449 - http://www.armory.co.nz/cat_36/tov_236.html
Pros: Nice barrel length; nice rail system; reasonable-looking iron sight; adjustable stock; combo pack with battery (& probably charger?); khaki colour is probably better camouflage.
Cons: Most expensive; no foregrip; khaki colour looks a little less fearsome and a bit more plasticky IMO.
I am very keen for you guys' opinions. ZeroAlphaOne has kindly offered me a grip, so if I got (1) or (3) then the lack of foregrip wouldn't be a problem. I am interested to learn how much a battery and charger would cost to buy separately, as (2) is probably my favourite at this point but I'm not sure how much the extras are gonna cost. Also wondering whether it's possible to modify the stock on (2) to an adjustable one if I decided I didn't like it later on. Is that advisable, and if so, how much would it cost?
Thanks all!:)

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
are the armoury prices NZD or USD?
Re: Trademe Gun Advice
Hy Dude have Text Noel from mag to email you so you can get other options and prices. Hope this helps

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
@Snax: I'm fairly sure the Armory are $NZD, they're based in Auckland after all.
@Bladerunner: Thanks for the assist

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
Ok just received an email from Glen at MAG. He doesn't rate the G&G guns, he reckons their M4/M16 range 'have proven to be unreliable in regards to magazine feeding. Out of the 6 or more guns that TAG has imported and the 2 I have had personally owned only one has been reliable in feeding.'
He recommends the King Arms range - apparently there are some King Arms full metal M4 SEGs coming in soon for some TAG guys, and he recommends I try them. Anyone got one (or ordered one) that I can check out?
EDIT: The King Arms M4A1 does look pretty sweet, and even in $USD it looks like a pretty good deal at US$215: http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/aeg/king-arms-hong-kong/king-arms-colt-m4a1.html (I am hoping it has a picatinny rail on the underside to support a foregrip - can't tell from the photos). Is it possible to order an SEG version from overseas retailers? I don't know the first thing about buying from overseas, what's involved?

Re: Trademe Gun Advice
Interesting opinion...I've had several G&G guns over time and most have had a single fault, but over time, and all are an easy fix...none have been feeding issues at all [shrug]

I use to own a G&G M4 CQB-R,(I sold it to Nematode) I had a few quality issues with it,
We found the Mag release had to be changed as they broke easy.
We also found the Mag well to be sloppy and the mag had too much movement sometimes causing a dry fire instead of a BB coming out.
We also found the gearbox screws over tightened.
Other than that it was a nice looking weapon and reasonably reliable except for the odd dry firing.
The reason I sold it was - I didn't like the look too much, It looked too short and compact for my liking, making it look like a toy in my opinion.
In my view I have to like the weapons look, otherwise I will Not buy it or keep it.
I am a great fan of Tokyo Marui as they are the most reliable Airsoft Weapons I have ever owned.
The downside it the only come with plastic receivers, But you can upgrade to a G&P metal body or Just by a G&P instead.
I am one of the guys who has a new King Arms M4 coming.
